Tego Calderon
Music came first and remains the real body of work. Calderon started out in 1996 and got his opening from Eddie Dee, who brought him onto the 2000 album El Terrorista de la Lirica. Three years later his own debut, El Abayarde, sold 300,000 copies worldwide and picked up a Latin Grammy nomination, which put a rough, unpolished voice at the centre of a genre that was about to go global. Eddie Dee returned the favour by including him on 12 Discipulos in 2004.
What happened next is the interesting part. Having arrived as a reggaeton figure, he spent the following decade moving away from it, leaning into hip hop and African music on The Underdog / El Subestimado in 2006 and El Abayarde Contraataca in 2007. The fourth album, El Que Sabe, Sabe, arrived in 2015 and won the Latin Grammy for Best Urban Music Album, which is a rare thing: an artist rewarded for the record made after the commercial moment had passed.
The screen career is a sideline he has kept up for years rather than a second act. Illegal Tender gave him a proper role in 2007. Then came Leo, first in Fast and Furious in 2009, again in Fast Five, and once more in The Fate of the Furious in 2017, which means he stayed with a blockbuster franchise across eight years without ever being asked to carry a scene alone.

Where to start with Tego Calderon
Films are the lesser half of this catalogue, so treat them accordingly. Fast & Furious introduces Leo as comic relief with a criminal record, Fast Five is where the character earns a place in the crew as the series turns into an ensemble heist picture, and The Fate of the Furious brings him back years later for the reunion.
If you want him carrying scenes rather than decorating them, Illegal Tender is the only option on this page and the better showcase by some distance: a small, blunt revenge thriller that actually wants something from him. His albums are the work that matters and none of them are in the catalogue here to link, so read these four titles as a footnote rather than a filmography.
