Destiny 2: Warmind (2018)

Destiny 2: Warmind is a 2018 shooter video game made by Bungie.

Destiny 2: Warmind takes Guardians to the polar ice caps of Mars, where warming glaciers are exposing something that was buried there since the Golden Age. Ana Bray, a Guardian who faked her own death to search for her past, has been digging in secret. What she finds is Rasputin, the last surviving Warmind, an ancient war machine intelligence that defended humanity during the Collapse, and beneath it, a Hive army devoted to a god called Xol. The expansion is built around Ana's personal stakes and Rasputin's enormous, threatening presence.

A few thoughts on Destiny 2: Warmind

Predators has a similar dynamic of warriors dropped into a hostile alien environment, fighting something ancient and overwhelming with only their skills and each other. The survival tension is comparable.

Rogue AI intelligences hiding in places humans abandoned

Warmind centers on Rasputin, a Golden Age war machine buried under Mars for centuries and still capable of deciding humanity's fate on its own terms. Portal and Portal 2 build entire games around an AI overseer nobody can fully trust, Half-Life 2 puts a controlling alien intelligence over occupied Earth, and Ghost in the Shell keeps circling what a self-directed machine mind actually wants.

Last-ditch military sci-fi against a threat bigger than one squad

Warmind sends Guardians against Xol and his Hive army, a small unit standing in for all of humanity. Old Man's War puts aging recruits in that same position against overwhelming aliens, Predators strands elite soldiers in a hunting ground built to break them, Project Hail Mary sends one person to save Earth alone, and The Last of Us carries that same weight.
