Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994) is a 1994 arcade video game made by SEGA.
After Doctor Robotnik's Death Egg crashes onto a mysterious floating island, Sonic and Tails race to recover the Chaos Emeralds before it can relaunch. The island has a guardian: Knuckles the Echidna, who is convinced by Robotnik that Sonic is the real threat. The third Genesis entry expanded the series with larger zones, a save feature, and the first appearance of Knuckles as a rival. Released in February 1994, it was designed to connect directly to Sonic and Knuckles via the lock-on cartridge system.
