Most LAPD rookies are twenty-two. John Nolan is pushing forty. After a bank robbery upends his comfortable life in small-town Pennsylvania, he walks away from everything and enrolls in the academy, becoming the oldest rookie on the force. Some of his superiors see a walking midlife crisis; his younger classmates see a guy old enough to be their dad. Alexi Hawley's series rides along on patrol with a warm streak, mixing real police-work stakes with the comedy of a second-chance underdog earning his badge one shift at a time.
