For Fans of Hayden Panettiere

She could play indestructible, frightened, funny, furious and wounded without reducing any of them to a type. This is the route through Hayden Panettiere's work.

A performer the camera watched grow up

Hayden Panettiere died on August 16, 2026, five days before her 37th birthday. The cause remains undetermined. Her career had already lasted more than three decades, beginning in childhood and moving through animation, family films, network television, horror, music drama and games.

The famous shorthand is Claire Bennet in Heroes, the cheerleader whose ability to heal turned her into the center of a global conspiracy. It is a good starting point, but a poor summary. Panettiere gave Nashville its rawest performance as Juliette Barnes, made Kirby Reed the sharpest new presence in the later Scream films, voiced Kairi and Xion across Kingdom Hearts, and put her face, voice and physical performance into Sam Giddings in Until Dawn.

The thread is not genre. It is the pressure inside apparently polished young women. Panettiere was unusually good at letting confidence and fear occupy the same close-up. Her strongest characters know how the room sees them and push back against that image, sometimes with wit, sometimes with anger, sometimes by refusing to disappear. Watch the work in clusters and that resistance becomes the career.

The essential Hayden Panettiere

Six performances that show the range, from superhero television and country drama to animation and horror.

Claire Bennet was never only the cheerleader

The slogan made Claire a plot device before the series had fully introduced her. Panettiere made her a person. The performance works because invulnerability never becomes emotional armor. Claire can survive the wound and still be frightened by the hands that keep trying to control what her body means. Start with the first season of Heroes, where the show's giant mythology still turns on one teenager's attempt to own her life.

The child star years

Before Heroes, she was already moving between animation, sports drama and Disney coming-of-age films.

Nashville gave her the hardest room

Juliette Barnes could have been written off as the volatile younger star opposite an established queen. Panettiere refused the easy version. She made ambition look like labor, charm look like strategy and collapse look frighteningly private even when it happened in public. Nashville is the long commitment on this page, and the clearest proof that her dramatic range was larger than the roles Hollywood tended to offer her.

Her game performances

Kairi and Xion made her voice part of Kingdom Hearts, while Sam Giddings brought her screen presence into survival horror.
