Mircea Monroe

Two long comedy roles anchor everything else. Mircea Monroe, born in St. Louis in 1982, played Morning Randolph on Episodes from 2011 to 2017 and Tansy Truitt on Hart of Dixie from 2011 to 2015, and those two overlapping runs are where the actual work is. Episodes is a Hollywood satire, and Morning Randolph is a performance about performing: a woman whose every gesture is calculated for an audience, played by someone who lets you see the calculation without ever tipping into caricature.

Before that she came up the way most working actors do, through pilots and genre films: The Contract in 2006, Borderland, the anthology series Fear Itself, Into the Blue 2: The Reef, Pterodactyl, Kara in the video game adaptation Tekken, and the lead in a 2010 parody with a title long enough to be its own joke, The 41–Year–Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It. Earlier film credits include Cellular and Just Friends, neither of which is among the credits listed here, and she starred as Ellie Laird on the Fox series Drive.

The pattern in the studio work is unmistakable. She is cast as the attractive woman at the edge of somebody else's joke: Ken's Wife in Magic Mike, Tatiana in The Change-Up, Becky in Fifty Shades of Black, Cheryl in Book Club. She is usually funnier than those parts require. More recent work has moved sideways into television and animation, with Isabel Bradford on The Rookie, Alexa Cummings on Impastor and voice roles on Kite Man: Hell Yeah!.
