Scott McCord

Scott McCord is an actor, born 1971.

Most voice actors get one part per series. Scott McCord routinely gets two or three. On Total Drama Island he is Owen and Trent; on The Ridonculous Race he is Owen, Jacques and Brody; on Yin Yang Yo! he is Yang and also Yuck; on the 2015 Inspector Gadget he is Brain and Professor Von Slickstein. That is a specific and undervalued skill, and it is why Canadian animation has kept him employed for close to thirty years.

Owen is the one that stuck. Across Total Drama Island, Action, World Tour, All-Stars, The Ridonculous Race, Total DramaRama and the 2023 reboot, McCord has played the same cheerful, wide-open comic character for two generations of viewers, and the performance survives every format change because it never asks to be liked. It simply is.

He is not only a cartoon voice. Born in Sarnia, Ontario in 1971 and a member of the Actors Studio, he has worked on stage and in live action throughout: Victor Kavanaugh on FROM, smaller parts in 16 Blocks, Shoot 'Em Up, The Recruit and Cronenberg's Spider. Then there is Jake, recurring across PAW Patrol and its films, which is very probably the most-heard he has ever been, and the least likely to be recognised as him.

Where to start with Scott McCord

Begin with the original 2007 run of Total Drama Island rather than the reboot, because the show's comic engine is Owen and McCord is doing more than one voice in every episode of it.

Keep going with Total Drama Action and Total Drama World Tour if the first season lands, and drop out if it does not, since the format repeats by design. Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race is the sharpest of the later ones and shows off the multiple-voice trick best. Total Drama Island is the reboot, for completists.

Outside that world, PAW Patrol is the one small children recognise instantly. Ruby Gloom is the underrated pick, gentler and stranger than most cartoons of its era. And FROM is the live-action McCord, a slow-burn mystery series where he plays it completely straight.
