Warwick Davis
Warwick Davis is an actor, born 1970.
Warwick Davis has been working since he was eleven, which is when he played Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi in 1983. He carried that character into two spin-off television films and has appeared somewhere in the Star Wars films for four decades, under different prosthetics and different names, most of which audiences never connect back to him.
Five years after the Ewok he got a lead. Willow in 1988 is a fantasy adventure built entirely around him, and it is still unusual for exactly that reason: a dwarf actor playing the hero rather than a creature, a servant or a joke, with the film's emotional weight resting on his performance. He returned to the part for a television continuation in 2022. In between he took the other sort of work available, playing the title monster across the Leprechaun horror series from 1993 to 2003, which he has always discussed with more affection than embarrassment.
The Harry Potter films gave him a second long-running home and two characters at once: Professor Filius Flitwick across the series and the goblin Griphook in the final films. Add the Narnia and Star Wars work and the arithmetic turns strange, since he is among the highest-grossing supporting actors in film history and has the highest average gross of any of them, a statistic almost nobody would attach to his name.
He also presents, writes, directs and produces, and played a version of himself in the sitcom Life's Too Short, which he co-created.

Where to start with Warwick Davis
Willow is the one, and the only place you see him carry a film outright. It is a big, sincere fantasy adventure, and his performance holds it together considerably better than the effects do.
Return of the Jedi is where he started, aged eleven, giving a full physical performance inside a suit with no face available to him. Then Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, where Griphook is his best straight acting: quiet, resentful and entirely unwilling to be anyone's helper.
Leprechaun is not a good film and is still worth watching, because he plays broad horror comedy with real commitment and the series would be nothing without him. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy gives him Marvin, a robot whose entire joke is posture. Finish with Willow, more interesting for what it does with the older version of the character than for anything else.
The Star Wars run, starting at eleven
He was a child in an Ewok suit doing genuine stunt work, and he has come back to the franchise across four decades in several different costumes. The Ewok Adventure is the curio, and The Force Awakens brought him back for a new generation.
Two characters across eight Harry Potter films
Playing Flitwick and Griphook in the same series is an unusual assignment, and the makeup means most viewers never register it is one actor. The later films give Flitwick more to do, and Prisoner of Azkaban is the best of the run.
Davis carrying a film himself
Willow is the one where he is the lead rather than the creature, and it holds up better than its box office suggested at the time. The 2022 series continues it, Leprechaun is the horror-comedy franchise, and Jack the Giant Slayer is the later studio work.
