Animorphs
The CrossBinge entry pairs the 1998 Nickelodeon television series with a clutch of K.A. Applegate's source novels, including one of the companion volumes, The Hork-Bajir Chronicles. Together they map a children's saga that went somewhere children's fiction rarely dared.
Five kids and an alien gain the power to morph into any animal they touch, then wage a guerrilla war against the Yeerks, parasitic slugs that crawl into human ears and pilot the bodies from inside. The premise sounds like a toy line, and it sold like one, yet the books leaned hard into body horror, paranoia, and the moral rot of an endless covert war. The TV adaptation sanded down the bleakness and never quite matched the page.
Across book and screen, this is the rare kids' franchise whose reputation rests on how dark it was willing to get.
The Animorphs franchise spans 1 series, 5 books in the CrossBinge catalog.
