Dollars Trilogy

The Dollars Trilogy is Sergio Leone's run of spaghetti westerns that turned Clint Eastwood into a star and rewrote what the genre could look like. A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) follow Eastwood's laconic Man With No Name through a sun-baked, morally filthy West.

What set them apart was style: extreme close-ups, long silences broken by sudden violence, and Ennio Morricone's wailing, whistling scores, which are as famous as the films themselves. The three are connected by tone and lead rather than a strict plot, building toward the sprawling Civil War treasure hunt of the final film. They remain the template most later westerns are measured against.
