Far Cry
Far Cry sends you to a beautiful, hostile open world and dares you to set it on fire. Since the series found its identity with Far Cry 3, the formula has been remarkably consistent: a gorgeous sandbox, a charismatic villain who often outshines the hero, and a playground of stealth, explosives, and emergent chaos. Far Cry 4 moved it to the Himalayas, Far Cry 5 to rural Montana and a doomsday cult, and Far Cry 6 to a Caribbean dictatorship.
The series is happy to get weird, too. Blood Dragon is a neon 1980s fever dream, and Primal strips the guns away for a Stone Age survival hunt. The 2008 film adaptation is best left forgotten. This is a franchise built on a reliable loop, elevated whenever it commits hard to a setting and a memorable antagonist.
The Far Cry franchise spans 7 games, 1 films in the CrossBinge catalog.
