SimCity
SimCity is the series that proved a video game did not need a win condition to be compelling. Will Wright's 1989 original handed players a blank plot of land, a tax slider, and a fistful of disasters, then asked a simple question: what kind of city do you want to live in? Everything that followed refined that core loop, from the isometric depth of SimCity 2000 to the dense simulation of SimCity 4.
The lineage runs almost entirely through games, with the mobile entry SimCity BuildIt carrying the brand into the free-to-play era and MySims spinning the engine off into something softer and more character-driven. It is a builder's franchise first and foremost, more interested in zoning, traffic, and infrastructure than in spectacle, and it remains the template every city-sim since has been measured against.
The SimCity franchise spans 7 games, 1 music in the CrossBinge catalog.
