Fighting Force 2 (1999)
Fighting Force 2 is a 1999 fighting video game made by Core Design.
Core Design stripped the multiplayer brawler back to a solo mission for Fighting Force 2. You control Hawk Manson infiltrating a criminal organization's facilities across a series of industrial and corporate environments, combining hand-to-hand combat with firearms and environmental objects. The game leaned harder into stealth and gadget use than its predecessor, aiming for something between a beat-em-up and a third-person action game. Reception at the time was mixed, but it remains an artifact of the late PS1-era effort to evolve a genre that was already struggling in 3D.

A few thoughts on Fighting Force 2
The brawling action DNA runs a straight line to God of War, which elevated the same core loop of close-quarters combat into one of the medium's finest examples. For the industrial corridor setting and solo operative tone, Half-Life 2 shows where that aesthetic went next.
Combat That Commits
Every button press has weight and consequence. These games build systems around the feel of landing a hit, not just registering one.
Corporate Villains and Mercenary Settings
Private armies, shadowy corporations, operatives who work outside legal structures. The enemy is organized, well-funded, and largely anonymous.
