Eddie Palmer comes home to small-town Louisiana after twelve years in prison, a former high school football star with nothing left to trade on the name. He moves in with his grandmother and takes a job mopping floors at a school. Next door lives Sam, a bullied boy who likes dolls and glitter and whose mother keeps vanishing. The two drift into an unlikely friendship that neither went looking for.
