Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (1988)
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders is a 1988 point-and-click video game made by Lucasfilm Games.
Zak McKracken writes for a supermarket tabloid, and he is not good at it. After a strange dream, he starts to suspect the phone company is quietly making everyone dumber through their handsets, on behalf of visiting aliens. Armed with an odd crystal, Zak teams up with an anthropologist named Annie and two friends to chase the plot across the globe and beyond. You point and click through airports, far-flung locations, and lateral puzzles, juggling four characters and a lot of pocket junk. A wry, globe-trotting comedy from the early adventure-game era.

A few thoughts on Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
For more story-first adventure where you talk, poke, and puzzle your way forward, Life Is Strange carries the same character-driven spirit into a modern setting, and The Walking Dead does it with heavier stakes.
Narrative adventures where your choices steer the story
Zak's globe-hopping caper lives on its writing and its lateral logic, so try adventures that hand you the wheel of the plot. These games let your decisions bend where the story goes, trading twitch reflexes for judgment, dialogue and consequence the way Zak trades pocket junk for progress through his tabloid conspiracy.
Quiet puzzle worlds that reward curiosity
Half of Zak McKracken is poking at objects until an odd combination clicks. If you like that rhythm of noticing, testing and solving, these games run on the same patient curiosity, building whole worlds around environmental puzzles and the small thrill of working something out with no hand-holding at all.
