Danganronpa

Spike Chunsoft's Danganronpa is a deeply strange hybrid: part visual novel, part courtroom thriller, part murder game. Students trapped in a school by a sadistic robotic bear are forced to kill one another and then expose the culprit in frantic, minigame-driven trials. The original Trigger Happy Havoc and its sequel Goodbye Despair built a cult following on lurid style, twist-heavy plotting and a willingness to be genuinely unsettling.

The franchise spread quickly beyond games. An anime adaptation and the Hope and Despair arcs on television extended the story, while spin-offs like Ultra Despair Girls changed the genre entirely. V3: Killing Harmony pushed the meta-commentary furthest of all. It is bright, brutal and unmistakably itself, with little interest in comforting anyone.
