Gears of War taught a generation what a cover shooter could feel like: bulky soldiers, a chainsaw bayonet, and the stop-and-pop rhythm that defined a console era. The original trilogy told a grim war story on the planet Sera, all crumbling beauty and brotherhood under fire, while Gears 4 and Gears 5 handed the saga to a new generation of characters. The series has since branched in time as well as genre. Gears Tactics reimagined the war as turn-based strategy, Judgment and the upcoming E-Day reach back toward the catastrophe of Emergence Day itself, and Reloaded polishes the 2006 original for modern hardware.
