Killzone
Killzone was Sony's bid for a flagship first-person shooter, and the series spent a decade chasing that ambition across nearly every PlayStation platform. The fiction is grimy military science fiction: the fascistic, gas-masked Helghast against the ISA, fought over ruined industrial cityscapes that trade color for grit.
The console entries are where the series made its name. Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 were PlayStation 3 showpieces, built around weighty, recoil-heavy gunplay that felt deliberately sluggish next to its rivals, while Shadow Fall opened the PS4 with a cleaner, brighter look. The handhelds went their own way: Liberation reworked the formula as a top-down shooter, and Mercenary proved a full-fat campaign could run on the Vita. Lead character Colonel Radec even turned up in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Sony's mascot brawler.
The Killzone franchise spans 6 games in the CrossBinge catalog.
