Shadowrun
Shadowrun is the great mashup of tabletop gaming: cyberpunk and high fantasy crammed into the same dystopian future, where elves and orcs work as deniable mercenaries, hackers jack into a neon datasphere, and street shamans cast spells alongside chrome-limbed gunmen. The video games adapt that pen-and-paper world, and the catalog here captures two very different attempts at it.
The 2007 release was a multiplayer-focused shooter that largely set the lore aside. The series found its truer voice afterward, when Harebrained Schemes used a crowdfunding campaign to deliver Shadowrun Returns and its successors, Dragonfall and Hong Kong, as story-rich isometric tactical RPGs. Those games leaned into the franchise's strengths: dense, noir-tinged writing, morally grey runs for shadowy clients, and a setting where magic and megacorporations are equally dangerous. They remain the definitive way to experience the world in interactive form.
The Shadowrun franchise spans 6 games in the CrossBinge catalog.
