Activision's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater did something rare in 1999: it made a niche subculture feel like the coolest thing on a console. The early trilogy gathered here turned skateboarding into an arcade rhythm of combos, manuals and grinds, scored by a punk and hip-hop soundtrack that shaped a generation's taste as much as the gameplay did.

The series then pushed for narrative and open worlds with Underground and American Wasteland, trading pure score-chasing for character and city. The 2020 remake of the first two games, rebuilt for a new console era, proved the original design holds up better than almost any of its peers.
