Prince of Persia
Jordan Mechner's Prince of Persia began in 1989 as a fluid, rotoscoped platformer whose lifelike animation set it apart from everything around it. Ubisoft's 2003 reboot, The Sands of Time, reinvented the series for 3D with acrobatic wall-running and a time-rewinding dagger that let you undo your own mistakes, a mechanic that influenced a generation of action games.
What holds the series together across decades is movement: the Prince is defined by how he runs, climbs and tumbles through collapsing palaces. The 2010 Sands of Time film brought that imagery to cinemas, and 2024's The Lost Crown proved the name could thrive as a precise, hand-drawn metroidvania. This is a franchise that keeps rebuilding itself while keeping motion at its center.
The Prince of Persia franchise spans 12 games, 1 films in the CrossBinge catalog.
